Guides, drivers, transfers and trips are chosen in advance by somebody who cannot visit first and has no way to judge you except what they can see and read. A listing gives them photos, a location, reviews from previous customers and a way to ask, which is everything that decision needs.

A permit is booked a long way ahead of the trip
Uganda is busiest from June to August and again from December into February, and a gorilla permit in either window has to be secured well in advance. That pushes the decision months earlier still, to somebody who was in another country when they made it. The work happening this season was won last season, and the only way into the next one is to be findable while people are still choosing.
